Helios

Helios by EX710

Helios by EX710 is a sativa-leaning hybrid (60/40) descended from the legendary Maui Wowie lineage. At 16-22% THC, this cut brings pure Hawaiian sunshine energy: tropical, fruity, citrus flavours layered over a floral sweetness that recalls the volcanic slopes where its ancestor first grew. Best for morning and daytime sessions, Helios is built for people who want to wake up and actually do something.

The Story

To understand Helios, you have to go back to the late 1960s, when surfers and hippies on Maui’s north shore stumbled onto something special growing in the volcanic soil. That was Maui Wowie, a Hawaiian landrace sativa that was pulling 15-19% THC at a time when most American weed barely hit 5%. It became the defining strain of the counterculture era, a symbol of beach sunsets and carefree island living that spread from the Hawaiian shores to the mainland and never looked back.

Helios picks up where that story left off. EX710 operates out of southern California, growing organically fed, hand-trimmed small-batch flower with serious quality control standards. They’ve partnered with Kaya Farms for distribution and built a reputation around rich terpene profiles and dense resin production. With Helios, they took the Maui Wowie blueprint and refined it for the modern palate: the same tropical uplift, the same daytime clarity, but with tighter structure and stronger terpene expression. The name fits. In Greek mythology, Helios is the sun god who drives his chariot across the sky each morning. That’s exactly what this strain does to your headspace.

The Nose

Open the bag and it smells like a fruit stand on a warm afternoon. Bright tropical notes hit first, followed immediately by a juicy fruity sweetness that fills the room. Underneath, there’s a clean citrus pop that keeps everything vibrant. Break a nug open and the sweet layer deepens, while a soft floral perfume rises from the centre. Finally, a gentle herbal earthiness rounds out the base.

That aroma profile comes from a terpene quartet working in harmony. Terpinolene leads, bringing fruity, slightly floral complexity that gives Helios its layered nose. Limonene adds the citrus pop, that lemon zest brightness you catch on the first sniff. Myrcene provides the musky, herbal, earthy base that keeps the sweeter notes grounded. And Ocimene contributes a sweet, herbaceous quality with a subtle tropical hint that ties everything back to those Hawaiian roots. The nugs themselves are minty green with grape-shaped density, threaded with vivid orange hairs and coated in frosty white trichomes.

The Smoke

Smooth on the inhale with tropical pineapple sweetness that coats the tongue right away. The citrus comes through more clearly on the exhale, almost like sour melon mixed with fresh lemon peel. Midway through the joint, the sweet and fruity notes intensify while the floral quality gets more pronounced as resin builds on the paper. There’s a pleasant herbal spiciness in the background that surfaces in the final third, adding depth to what could otherwise be a one-dimensional fruit bomb. The burn is clean and even, white ash, and the flavour holds steady from start to finish.

The High

Helios by EX710 hits the head almost immediately. Within the first few pulls, a wave of euphoria lands, bright and clean, like someone turned the lights up in your brain. Seconds later, the energetic surge kicks in and you feel genuinely motivated to move, create, or engage. This transitions quickly into a creative flow state where ideas connect effortlessly.

As the high builds over the next ten to fifteen minutes, a warm mood uplift settles in alongside a persistent happy glow. You feel focused without any tunnel vision, and genuinely sociable, the kind of high where conversations flow naturally and everything feels interesting. The physical side stays light throughout. There’s no couch lock, no heaviness, just enough body relaxation to keep you comfortable while your mind does its thing. The whole experience lasts about two hours, tapering gently without any crash.
